Commitment to industrialised construction
The laying of the first stone launches the Lola Iturbe Arizcuren Street development in the Sant Martí district, consisting of 40 public rental housing units and premises for a future facility. Construction work began at the end of last November, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. The building will consist of a ground floor and eight additional floors, and will stand out for its energy efficiency and the use of low environmental impact materials. The project was led by the architects Vicente Guallart and Daniel Ibáñez, who are continuing the Barcelona City Council's commitment to the use of industrialised construction, a more innovative, cheaper, faster and more environmentally friendly technique.
The project is done, moreover, in a district of Sant Martí where there are already three more promotions started, a fact that makes this district a reference of industrialised construction in the city, as well as public housing in general terms. From 2015 to date, 526 housing units and 20 temporary accommodations have been completed in this district alone, while there are 287 housing units and 57 accommodations in the current construction phase, in addition to 206 housing units planned to be erected.
