Barcelona City Council, through IMHAB, has delivered five emergency homes on Tuesday, May 27, four of them located in Ciutat Vella and one in Sant Martí. Joan Ramon Riera, housing commissioner, has been in charge of handing over the keys to the five successful families.
The awarding families have been summoned to the IMHAB offices to complete the administrative procedures and sign the corresponding documentation. Once the process has been completed, they have received the keys to their new homes. Subsequently, they attended a guide talk on the measures of coexistence and mediation by the Prevention, Intervention and Mediation Service of Public Housing of the City Council (SPIMH).
Emergency social housing to deal with situations of vulnerability
The homes awarded through the Emergency Board are part of the Social Rental Fund, managed by the Barcelona Housing Consortium, and are aimed at people and families at risk of residential exclusion because they are in situations of vulnerability such as cases of eviction due to non-payment of the rent, mortgage executions or payment payment processes. Families with minors, the elderly or those in distress who live in precarious conditions of safety or hygiene are also taken into consideration.
To opt for a home, it is necessary to request an assessment of the case through the Housing Offices Network of Barcelona. Once the files have been studied, the Emergency Board assigns the available housing according to social priority criteria. Given the fact that demand exceeds supply, the adjudications are made progressively, as new flats are incorporated into the Social Rental Fund, and are formalized in the monthly sessions of the Board.
