The new block, with thirty officially protected homes, will start being built once the current work on streets and services in the Can Farigola neighbourhood concludes. The two families who were living here until now have been transferred to other municipal protected housing in the same neighbourhood.
The building in C/ Mare de Déu del Coll was acquired by the City Council as a result of the urban reparcelling process in the neighbourhood. The Barcelona Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation (IMHAB) is working on the preliminary stages of development for a new block of homes. The provision is to tender the project in 2025 so that work can get under way in the next term of office.
Construction work should begin once the streets and services in the so-called services ring have been completed in the neighbourhood of Can Farigola in Vallcarca. Specifically, this work will improve the urban quality of various streets, including C/ Mare de Déu del Coll, and the construction of services such as pneumatic waste collection, which will need to be connected to the future blocks. Work began in April with an investment of 6.78 million euros and will take twenty months.
In the same neighbourhood, in C/ Farigola, another new IMHAB block of fifteen homes is planned, also to be built in the next term of office. In all, the urban planning for Vallcarca allows for up to 500 homes, 40% of which will be officially protected and built on municipal land, including the buildings to rehouse those affected by the changes and two blocks already delegated and under construction, providing sixty protected rental homes and cooperative housing.
