On Tuesday, September 30, five families received the keys to emergency housing from Barcelona City Council, through the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation (IMHAB). These homes are located in the districts of Ciutat Vella and Sants-Montjuïc.
The allocation took place during a ceremony held at the IMHAB offices on Doctor Aiguader Street, attended by the Housing Commissioner, Joan Ramon Riera. The handover of keys followed the completion of administrative procedures and the signing of rental contracts.
Afterwards, the families participated in an information session organized by the Public Housing Prevention, Intervention and Mediation Service (SPIMH) of the City Council, which provided guidance on coexistence, community rules and mediation tools to foster good neighborly relations.
A resource for families in vulnerable situations
The homes allocated through the Emergency Housing Committee are part of the Social Rental Fund, managed by the Barcelona Housing Consortium. This resource is aimed at people and families at risk of residential exclusion due to evictions, mortgage foreclosures or dations in payment, as well as households with children, elderly people or individuals in situations of neglect. It also covers cases with serious deficiencies in hygiene, safety or living conditions.
Those affected can request support through the Barcelona Housing Office Network. The Emergency Housing Committee assigns available homes according to urgency and availability at any given time.
