City Council is to organise an international architecture contest with terms and conditions agreed with local residents’ associations. Apart from choosing the project to define the Special Plan for Urban Improvement (PEMU) in the area, the process will choose four architecture projects for buildings.
In the next few days Barcelona City Council will be announcing an international contest to choose the design for a package of public rental homes to be built near Pl. Glòries. Specifically, the site is at the block between C/ Castillejos, C/ Casp, Pl. Glòries and the Gran Via. The contest will lead to the commissioning of a development proposal to define the Special Plan for Urban Improvement (PEMU) for the area, with 300 homes to be built there.
The terms and conditions for the contest have been agreed with local residents’ associations as part of the Commitment to Glòries signed in 2007 with City Council. The framework of the agreement means the characteristics of the blocks in the Eixample district must be respected, preventing the construction of taller buildings. The adjudication criteria will rate aspects such as the quality of architecture, integration with surroundings, floor layout and energy efficiency.
The contest is open to professionals and teams from any EU country and projects should be presented in a 40 day period following the publication of the terms and conditions.
